The Little Yellow Kite
Once I flew a little yellow kite
It flew to a great height,
fluttering its little ribbons in the big blue sky
- oh! what a happy sight! But one day a wild wind blew
and the kite further flew -
I didn't not see the string snap in two
until the kite bade me: adieu!I cried,"Come back! Oh please, come back!"
and ran after it till my strength did lack
Yet higher did the little kite soar
Higher, higher till I saw it no more.I fell upon the grass
My tears like broken glass
Knees on the ground and eyes above -
the masochism of one slain by love. Now upon that very ground
that my desolation found
I begin reeling in
the everlasting string.I pull and pull till my fingers are raw
I dream and I ache but I can hope no more
that at the end of it freshly tied
would once more be - my little yellow kite.
